5775-10

The Netcom 5775-10 is a tunable bandpass filter covering 225 MHz to 520 MHz, from the top of VHF through the lower UHF band. The centre frequency is set in 1 MHz steps and the 3 dB bandwidth is 10% of the tuned frequency. The filter settles on a new frequency in 20 microseconds.

It is part of the TunePro 2W series and handles 2 watts (+33 dBm P1dB) in a 0.575 x 0.575 x 0.108 inch surface mount package. IIP3 is +45 dBm and insertion loss is 4.0 dB typical, the lowest in the series. Rejection is 13 dB at 10% away from the tuned frequency, 18 dB at 15% away and 23 dB at 20% away, also the best in the series. Noise figure is less than 0.5 dB above the insertion loss. Control is by SPI serial interface. The part runs from 3.3 VDC at 20 mA and works from -40 to +85 °C.

Size is the main story here. At 225 MHz a conventional tunable filter is bulky, because the resonators have to be physically large. Fitting this range into a half inch square surface mount part is what lets a VHF or UHF preselector go into a handheld radio or a small payload at all.
